After a year of negotiations a Joint Platform has been opened in Bovisa Campus of the Polytechnic University of Milan. The project has been launched by the Polytechnic University of Milan and the Tsinghua University in Beinjing – one of the most important universities in the world. The Joint Patform based in BovisaTech, a modern district of Milan dedicated to design, technology and innovations, is supposed to become the biggest Chinese innovation pole in the world. Due to the fact that Milan has been chosen by the Tsinghua University as a location for the Joint Platform, the Italian fashion capital is going to become the European hub of innovations, design and technology.

The story behind the creation of theJoint Platform in Milan

The first agreements on the creation of the Joint Platform have been made at the beginning of the 2017 in Beinjing by the Italian president Sergio Mattarella and the Chinese president Xi Jinping. In November 2017 the ex Italian minister of education, universities and research, Valeria Fedeli, and the Chinese minister of science and technology Wan Gang have struck further agreements which actually led to the launch of an Italian-Chinese collaboration I the field of innovation. Fondazione Politecnico di Milano (from the the Polytechnic University of Milan) and Tus Holdings (from the Tsinghua University) have founded Sidera Ltd – an international alliance dedicated to design innovation education and research.

Why the Joint Platform?

Which is the aim of such a strong and active collaboration between Italy and China in the field of technology?
This agreement will facilitate the business and scientific collaborations between Italian and Chinese companies. The latter are expected to open their R&D centres in the BovisaTech district in Milan. This is a unique opportunity for small and medium Italian companies as well as Italian startups to work closely and develop common project together with Chinese partners, it especially matters for such topics as design, industry 4.0, robotics and the automotive industry.
